Historical restoration usually begins with a conditions assessment to determine the applicable scope.
Stabilization will prevent further deterioration. Preservation techniques such as painting or the application of protective coatings, rust removal and caulking will reduce water infiltration. Where further repairs are needed the masonry, wood and metals can be conserved by patching, splicing or reinforcing. Historical restoration includes the replacement of deteriorated or missing parts as may be necessary to restore the original appearance of the structure and while it is preferable to use traditional materials, compatible substitute materials are sometimes an acceptable alternative.
ICC's historical restoration team has applied its experience and careful attention to architectural icons as varied as the 100ft cast iron Anclote Key Lighthouse in Florida, the 'Lucky Strike' chimney in Durham, NC, the remote Two Bush Island Lighthouse, ME, and many others.
